Matching AC Tonnage to Room Size
One ton equals 12,000 BTUs per hour, roughly enough to cool 100 to 130 sq ft of standard ceiling height room in peak Indian summer. Under-tonnage means the AC runs at 100 percent capacity all day and never cools the room. Over-tonnage means the AC short-cycles, leaving the room cold but clammy.
